RESIDENT ENGINEER
(FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITION)

DESCRIPTION: (COMMENCING IMMEDIATELY FOR ONE YEAR)



OPEN TO THE PUBLIC



This position provides a variety of professional engineering services related to the planning, design, and management of Capital Highway construction projects. The incumbent of this position reports to the Regional Engineer and is responsible for the supervision of highway capital construction activities in the central region. The Resident Engineer works closely with the management team on special projects and initiatives such as program assessment, policy review, quality assurance, staff training and development, etc.



Duties will include:


- assisting the Regional Engineer in planning and organizing an annual program of highway capital construction projects for the region;


- directing and controlling the work program to meet the capital construction requirements;


- supervising the project managers, surveyors, and technical staff involved in the capital construction program;


- ensuring all work activity is conducted in accordance with safety, technical, environmental regulations and ensuring that all necessary approvals and permits are in place before the work commences;


- monitoring compliance with plans and specifications and monitoring quality and progress of ongoing construction activities;


- maintaining technical and administrative files on all aspects of assigned projects including quality controls reports, contract documents, correspondence with contractors, invoices, change orders, etc;


- other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Applicants must have a related engineering degree including university level course work in highway and traffic engineering, project management, and materials.


- This position requires experience in one or more fields of highway engineering as well as strong inter-personal and supervisory skills.


- Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of PEI is required.



Note: Applicants who do not fully meet the qualifications may be considered for a provisional appointment. This competition may be used to fill future term employment.
